Bose SIE2i Headphones Review

Bose SIE2iIt’s been a well known fact that when it comes to the sports headphone market, in general, the options that sports enthusiasts have are somewhat limited. Bose realized this and has introduced a sporty pair of headphones called the SIE2i. Essentially these headphones are similar to the popular IE2 models, with the exception that it is more rugged, sweat resistant and features Bose’s StayHear tips which firmly hold the headphone in place, which comes it extremely handy when you’re continuously jumping, running and continuously moving for an extended amount of time.

Design Features
The design features of the headphone are impressive. It’s relatively small, with a length of 6 x 4 x 2 inches and weighs in at approximately 0.6 ounces. When it comes to color options it is somewhat limited in the sense that it comes in 4 different colors which are purple, lime green, blue and orange. It features an inline remote and microphone alongside with watertight button housings and a hydrophobic acoustic windscreen which reduces the interference that is caused by noise and moisture.
According to Bose, the SEI2I features acoustic ports which are essentially positioned to resist liquids such as sweat and water. They also stated that these ports are covered with hydrophobic cloth that keeps the moisture out, but allows the sound to pass through none the less. Bose also teamed up with Reebok to include an additional accessory that comes with the headphones, which is a fitness armband that essentially allows you to strap your smartphone to either of your arms.

Pros
Unlike the traditional headphones that are released on the markets today, the SIE2i doesn’t feature a pair of noise canceling ear-buds that plug right into your ear, but rather a silicone cover that projects the sound into your ear canal. The beauty of this though is the fact that it gives your ear some well needed breathing room which is understandable due to the fact that whenever you exercise, most of the heat that leaves the body is actually from your head. Another plus with these headphones is the fact that it fits securely into your ears, so the chances of it falling out while you are in the midst of an activity is relatively low. Additionally, due to the fact that it doesn’t plug into your ear like traditional headphones do, you can hear outside noises which is a plus as well, such as being able to hear the traffic around you as you go on a jogging session around your community.

Cons
One of the things I didn’t like about the headphones, was the price. With a price range of $100-$150, it isn’t necessarily easy on the wallet by any means. Another thing I didn’t like about the SIE2i was the fact that even though the headphones were secure, the open design may not be appealing to everyone who is used to the traditional design of ear tips. Additionally, I also realized that the armband was not designed to be used with the iPhone 5, so in essence, iPhone 5 users may find this to be a deal breaker in the sense that they won’t benefit from this additional accessory.

Overall Impression
I would say that if you go to the gym on a regular basis or participate in sports frequently, I agree with www.SmartMonkeyFitness.com that the SIE2i will definitely be an excellent choice when it comes to finding a pair of headphones that are ideal for these specific types of situations. Alternatively though, if you find noise cancellation as a necessity, then you’re probably better off with the Bose IE2, which does feature noise cancellation. But overall, for its intended market and the features that it comes equipped with, I highly recommend it for any sports enthusiast that need a pair of headphones that can fit securely and comfortably while they partake in physical activity.
